“The history of Valentine's Day — and its patron saint — is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.” Valentine's Day — History.com Articles, Video, Pictures and Facts
Why do we celebrate Valentine’s Day during Aquarius? Aquarius is the polarity (externalized reflection) of Leo. What is Leo? Leo is the warm sun, the natural warmth of knowingness that creation employs. It is the confidence of the Lion, the regal and noble largess that stems from no doubt. Doubt; the true opposite of love and natural creative extension of the self. The creative extension that comes from the knowingness of the eternal, of the unyielding and undying love of the creator who explores itself with joy--without doubt--is reflected and exchanged in Aquarius. Aquarius is accolade, love received and admiration socially by friends and colleagues alike. Aquarius is the second sign from Capricorn – The second house from a sign is always the “worth” of the house it follows. Therefore the “worth” of our work and status we achieve from it, is in the love and accolade we receive that validates the service we have rendered.
Aquarius is the social appreciation for our uniqueness we experience through others of that creator, of ourselves and our natural love and creativity (creative extension). Individuality--Made in its image, now that image is exchanged and shared. Aquarius is co-creation. This is why it manifests in the Air sign Aquarius, because air needs social appreciation and ideological exchange. Aquarius is the reception and appreciation of the natural creative extension of the self--its reception and appreciation by other co-creators, other extensions of the love of the “ALL THAT IS.”
Love therefore is a state of being, the ecstatic state of natural, warm, spontaneous love giving and creativity that emerges from knowingness and trust. We see this reflected back to us in Aquarius.
May the appreciation of the you you are, be reflected through the co-creators you encounter this day, which can only be the reflection of the love you have for yourself.
"Why is the measure of love loss?....I am thinking of a certain September: Wood pigeon Red Admiral Yellow Harvest Orange Night. You said, 'I love you.' Why is it that the most unoriginal thing we can say to one another is still the thing we long to hear?
'I love you' is always a quotation. You did not say it first and neither did I, yet when you say it and when I say it we speak like savages who have found three words and worship them....Love demands expression. It will not stay still, stay silent, be good, be modest, be seen and not heard, no.
It will break out in tongues of praise, the high note that smashes the glass and spills the liquid."
Jeanette Winterson, "Written on the Body"

February 14 in the Norse religion is Valisblot. Named for Valle, Odin's youngest son. The name was probably changed by the Church when the Christians changed to old ways to their traditions.
